Great trips out by the sea!!

How good was that?!? Can't say I've ever had a better trip out with a better groups of students - how good are you lot?!? I have to say you are all very impressive with your work ethic - and it was lovely seeing the boys fill their shoes with sand by hurtling themselves down a few sand dunes!!

I went back to Crosby on Saturday with the husband and kids - that is quite a different experience explaining to a 4 year old why there are lots of naked male statues on the beach... you can imagine the questions!! Still, she won "Star of the Week" at school last week and so has to fill in a book about what she did at the weekend... lots of strategically placed photographs!!!

Make sure you are filling in your sketch books for unit 2 - don't forget that the Arty stuff mixes with the media stuff until you are completely mixed together!! Also, use the Crosby trip to comment in Unit 1 about places you can go to see C&M! And that's how you use some things for both units :D

Don't forget you have a big list of things to do over the next 2 weeks... have fun homework busting!!

Harry Potter!!

So, who's off to see Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince over the next few days? I suspect some of you will see it on opening night? Keep an eye out on the advertising - how has it been sold? What merchandise can you buy? How is the cinema enticing you to see the film? What has been going on on the radio today - Radio 1 for instance had "Harry Potter Day"!!! What are the films which are advertised in the trailers before the film? Why those films?

Then , whilst you're watching - how is the pace maintained? How true is the film to the book? Does the film live up to the hype? Why? Think about why the HP films maintain their popularity, and how much that has to do with advertising and marketing (distribution) rather than the film's actual merit as a media text.

Chat away!!

Blog changes!!

Yo!!

Prior warning... some of you seem to be changing blog names etc. If you are going to do this can you stop doing it by Friday?!? Then we can all change our lists, and I can believe that we are all nice and organised haha

We are also going to adapt our privacy settings so that the only people who can see our blogs are each other, and our parents... mine too, afterall they are teachers!!

Any queries or questions, you can post on here or come and find me in L11 (The Applied Learning Zone):D

Films and Songs

Hi Gang

So I should now be following all of you... that took a while!!  Make sure you keep up to date with your blogs, recording information about anything to do with creative media... try to get into the habit during the summer of writing a post when you visit anywhere related to the art and media industry, that could be a cinema visit or art gallery :)

Now, songs and films...

It's a tricky business choosing favourite films and songs - I think our choices change regularly depending on mood, so it is a bit subjective!  I was trying to think of my own answer, and for today have come up with Lauren Hill's "Killing Me Softly" (you will only be able to see this link from home!) a song which I have loved for years!!

As for favourite film I have no idea where to start so I'll start in the most obvious place for me!!  As an English teacher (and Media obviously!!) I luuurrrvvveeeeee Dead Poet's Society, particularly the ending which I have put a link for here!!  If you have never seen the film, the ending will perhaps seem a little strange... but it always brings a tear to my eye!!  I'll give you this clip too - it's
inspirational
Have a go at doing this on your blog - we can't view You Tube in school, but it's a good way of letting each other see and hear clips of our interests!!

Keep Blogging :D

Yo!!

Bonjour mes eleves!!

Aujourd hui nous sommes... hmmm not sure I can keep that up!!

Say "Hi!" gang :)  Make sure that by the end of the session you are "following" my blog.  Over the next two years you will be able to refer back to this to see what we have covered, and where we are going.

When you say "Hi" in a minute, tell me your favourite film and song... have fun today, everything you learn will be used during the course, particularly to keep a record of your own work.
